Who should attend this course?
Functional Skills English is designed to give these learners the skills to operate in education, work and day-to-day life. The course focuses on three main aspects: Reading, Writing and Speaking, Listening and Communication. It is split into three entry levels, depending on the learners’ abilities.
Learning aims:
Entry Level 1
Reading– Read and Understand Simple Texts that Explain or Recount Information.
Writing– Write Short Sentences.
Speaking, Listening and Communication– Contribute and Understand the Main Points of a Discussion.
Entry Level 2
Reading– Read and Understand Simple Texts that Explain or Recount Information.
Writing– Write Short Texts with a Basic Awareness of the Intended Audience.
Speaking, Listening and Communication– Participate in Discussions Regarding Familiar Topics and Make Contributions to One or More People.
Entry Level 3
Reading– Read and Understand the Content and Purpose of a Text which Informs, Explains and Recounts Information.
Writing– Write Texts with Adaptations Aimed at the Intended Audience.
Speaking, Listening and Communication– Respond Appropriately to Others and Make Extended Contributions in Both Formal and Informal Discussions.
Assessment
Candidates are assessed throughout the course through written, verbal and video evidence as well as exam results.
